Don Shalla Performance Engineering & Exhaust Development (DonSPEED) was founded in 2008 as a vehicle to manufacture, develop and market exhaust system components utilizing our exclusive Torque-Cone technology.
DonSPEED is a subsidy of Don Shalla Enterprises, which was founded in 1988 to manufacture products for the Kart racing industry and continues today doing fabrication work on Racing cars, Street Rods and manufacturing motorcycle lifts.

I was involved in Karting as a tuner and driver for 9 years in the 80’s. Careful preparation, attention to detail, innovation and good driving provided me with what I consider to be a fairly successful Karting career that included:

9 local club and regional points championships
5 International Karting Federation “Grandnational” Championships
Countless individual race wins

After Karting, I developed a line of motorcycle lifts that was very successful for awhile and the CenterStand lift (www.centerstand.com) continues to be a popular seller to this day because of it’s superior engineering and quality construction.

In the late 90’s I became interested in the field of exhaust systems, and mufflers in particular, because I liked going fast but didn’t believe that the brutal assault to the eardrums was necessary to do so. I wanted to develop a muffler that would not only reduce sound levels but would do so without hurting power output. It was then I came up with the Torque-Cone idea, which worked very well, but I didn’t understand why, so I shelved the project for a few years thinking it was just “snake” oil science.

After purchasing a dyno and doing a lot of testing I found that the Torque-Cone principal was indeed a scientifically valid one. By utilizing Bernoulli’s "principles of the flow of compressible fluids" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernoullis_principle), and the "Venturi Effect" as described by Giovanni Battista Venturi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venturi_effect) I developed a few simple rules and found that by following them, the Torque-Cones could be successfully implemented in almost any application.

I have tested Torque-Cones on: Sport bikes, Dirt bikes Shifter Karts, Nascar Modifieds, Harley-Davidsons and even the shop Forklift and found they improved horsepower, torque and drivability whenever they were applied properly.

From the humble CenterStand Lift to the Torque-Cone line of exhaust products I have dedicated my life to making quality products that outperform the competition time after time.
